Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Senator and renowned legal expert, Aitzaz Ahsan, has said that he was in favor of writing the letter to Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Aitzaz Ahsan has different stances on different occasion over the matter. He had said that letter couldn’t be written unless President Asif Ali Zardari is holding office when he appeared before the Supreme Court as a counsel for former premier Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

Earlier, he had said that there was not harm in writing the letter to Swiss authorities.

Reiterating his previous stance, the legal expert said, “The matter pertaining to writing the letter to Swiss authorities has become so complex for both the government and the apex court to acquit from the matter”.

He, however, said that he was in favor of writing the letter but after looking into the complexity of the matter his thinking changed.

He said that there were no signs of fresh elections in the country in the coming days, predicting a new twist in the story. In his view, the general elections will be held in the country after the third prime minister.

He also criticized the American policies towards Pakistan, saying that outstanding matters between Washington and Islamabad will be resolved peacefully if the former changes its policy towards latter.

The Senator noted, “The United States is responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation in Pakistan as the White House called some people its friend, whom it announced foes and put head bounty on them in the past”.

In his view, the remains of British imperialism were present in the shape of bureaucracy, adding that police and law enforcement agencies failed to uphold law and order situation in the country.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court made it clear that it did not plan on any adverse moves, and even offered a helping hand to the government to find a solution that could vindicate both sides on an issue that has become a deadlock.

It is vital to highlight here that Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani had lost his seat due to this issue. He had continuously refused to write the letter despite a number of direct orders by the court.
