Asus Zenbook UX32VD (Summer 2012): Full Review – Part 3

Therefore, lets directly get our hands busy in the hardware specs of the device. The reason why Zenbook stands out from the rest of market is the inclusion of the top end hardware components that we find in a mid-size computer.

Under the hood is a powerful Core i7 quad-core CPU clocked at 1.7 GHz. It is no ordinary processing unit but one that came out the Intel factory this year with a nickname Ivy Bridge.

The quad-core processor is assisted by 4 GB of DDR3 1.3 GHz RAM which is normal for a laptop from this age of technology. However, what is not normal is the inclusion of a discrete graphics card from NVIDIA. The company has increased the efficiency of its graphics cards and reduced their size, so it has become easy for OEMs to include them in the devices that have smaller footprint and/or thinner chassis.

Although the NVIDIA GeForce GT 620M is pretty low-end for dedicated graphics card, its presence in an ultrabook is a clear notion that the ultrabook companies are taking the graphic card aspect very seriously.

The screen is 1080p full HD resolution and takes full advantage of the discrete graphics card inside the hood. The 1920×1080-pixel resolution is pretty normal for a mid size laptop but for a notebook this small and slim, it is quite an impressive feature in addition to graphics and central brains.

The 1080p resolution however, taxes the battery life. However, careful use might take it through five to six hours easily.

Those who are looking for a device that can play high-end games, the Zenbook is not the option for them. Though it has an NVIDIA graphics card, playing all the high-end games on full blast will be suicidal. However, tweaking them a little bit might do the trick.

Final Take

The Asus Zenbook UX32VD is a great device with the inclusion of some of the best hardware in the market. However, the asking price for its ownership is quite lofty and there is not much bang for the buck.
