Govt. plans to appoint women judges

Islamabad: (Friday, July 27, 2012) President Zardari said here today that after passing women rights bills, now the government is planning to appoint women judges in the judiciary at apex level.

The president said this while addressing a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr where he signed and concluded the one million signature campaign.

President Zardari said that the incumbent government has taken steps towards women empowerment and to eliminate all forms of discrimination against them.

He was of the view that the government, inspired by the vision of Benazir Bhutto to end the exploitation of women, passed a number of legislations to ensure the rights of women and their empowerment in the true sense.

The president said that the government has given priority to addressing the issue of discriminatory laws against women and concerted efforts are being made to eliminate abuse of women in all its forms while having on board all
the stakeholders including women parliamentarians, and representative of the civil society organizations.
