Russia denies contemplating on giving Assad asylum

Moscow: (Saturday, July 28, 2012) Russia has denied contemplating on the idea of offering asylum to Syrian president Bashar-al-Assad if the need arises.
Commenting on the possibility, the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said here today that “Russia has made no agreement to grant Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad asylum and is not even thinking about doing so.”
Through this statement, although Russia hasn’t said it clearly that it will not grant asylum to Assad in future, but for the time being, it has at least cleared that it is not having any such thoughts currently.
Today, while talking to the reporters, and answering to a query on whether the Russian authorities are ready to offer Assad asylum, lavrov categorically said, “We have said more than once publicly that we are not even thinking
about this.”
