In order to cool down the masses, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira came forward announcing that the ongoing electricity crisis would be resolved within two to three days.

Speaking to state-run Pakistan Television (PTV), the minister for information and broadcasting said that the current power crisis was due to some technical faults and windstorm in South Punjab.

He observed, “Some major problems had occurred simultaneously due to windstorm in Muzaffargarh as five electric polls of main 500kv heavy transmission line were damaged and power got suspended from system causing the current crisis”.

Kaira further said that expert teams had reached on the site and 300MW electricity suspended from Muzaffargarh would be added to the national grid within 24 hours while remaining 350MW would be restored in the next 48 hours.

The minister, however, said that it will take few days to resume 350MW more from Park Jin power plant which would help to overcome the severe power crisis. With repairing of a part of Chashma Nuclear Power Plant another 350MW will be added to the national grid, he added.

He further explained that Guddu power plant would also start functioning soon and the current crisis would be resolved by improving the current shortage of almost 2000 MW.

Kaira asserted, “Unscheduled load shedding would end after the addition of 2000 MW into the system and the government is also providing oil supply to all power plants”.

Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari took notice of the electricity loadshedding during Sehri and Iftar timings, summoning a high level meeting at the presidency to discuss the issue.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Federal Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Federal Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain and the secretaries of the departments will participate in the meeting.

It is vital to mention here that prolonged hours power outages amid extreme humid temperature in Ramazan have forced the patience of the people to run out and desperate citizens continued with their full-forced violent protests against the government.
