Chad le Clos and Ye Shiwen win gold medals – 2012 London Olympic Games

Chad le Clos of South Africa and Ye Shiwen of China won gold medals of the Men’s 200m butterfly and Women’s 200m Individual medley (IM) respectively at the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Le Clos remained just an inch ahead of Phelps on the finishing blockade and proved his mettle for gold medal by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 52.96 seconds.

His astonishing effort remained 0.05 seconds faster from the American veteran, who settled on the podium for silver medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 53.01 seconds.

Phelps was trailed by Takeshi Matsuda of Japan, who was only 0.20 seconds apart and finished his race in third place by producing a time of 1 minute and 53.21 seconds.

The Japanese swimmer was chased by Dinko Jukic of Austria, who remained full body length behind and transpired on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 1 minute and 54.35 seconds.

Jukic was followed by Tyler Clary of USA, who secured fifth position of the event by reporting an effort of 1 minute and 55.06 seconds.

After that, the audience witnessed scintillating forms of Shiwen in the 200m discipline. Shiwen improved her timing by 0.82 seconds in the final round and clinched gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 07.57 seconds.

With her stupendous pace, she remained half body length ahead of Australian swimmer, Alicia Coutts, who occupied silver medal of the race with an effort of 2 minutes and 08.15 seconds.

Coutts was followed by Caitlin Leverenz of USA, who remained 0.80 seconds slower and reached the finishing end for bronze medal with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.95 seconds.

The bronze medallist was trailed by the defending champion, Stephanie Rice of Australia who failed to meet expectations of her supporter and finished fourth in the discipline by hitting the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 09.55 seconds.

Furthermore, the position holders received medals at the prize ceremony of the session.
