Alex Cheng gives severe lesson to James Ho in quarter-final battle at Pan Am Junior Championships

USA’s talented player Alex Cheng proved his mettle on court and surged into Boy’s Singles U17 semi-final after ousting Canada’s James Ho in quarter-final battle of XXI Pan Am Junior Championships 2012 at Sherwood Park, Canada, on July 27.

The in-form Alex, who entered into the championship as an un-seeded player, turned into main contender for the title as he secured his berth in the top four after beating James in a thrilling rubber-set contest.

Alex was on a different level on court as he played tremendous badminton and ended up the contest in three games by taking 46 minutes on court.

In the meanwhile, the local shuttler failed to respond well to his home crowd as he tried his best to stop the progress of his opponent but failed to prove his worth and eventually lost the battle with a decent score on the board.

Alex played well in opening rallies of first game and he did not face any trouble from his local opponent in taking a superb lead of 11-5 until the one-minute break.

After the interval, the Canadian shuttler played attacking badminton and managed to draw near on the board He was quite focused on court and levelled the score at the ending phase.

At this stage, both players remained focused and reached at 24-24 when Alex showed his brilliance and ended up the set with a tight score of 26-24.

The second set was completely different as James proved his worth on court by playing aggressive badminton and set up a superb lead of on the score board by reaching at 11-6.

After the mid-game break, Alex tried to change the tempo of rallies but failed to reduce the huge gap and lost the set with a 13-21 score on the board.

The local shuttler was impressive in the final game as he remained consistent and reached at 11-6 until the one-minute interval.

Nevertheless, Alex became aggressive after the break and played tremendous badminton to end up the lead of his rival.

Alex remained positive in the concluding phase of final set and easily bagged it with a stunning margin of 21-14.

The impressive USA shuttler proved his mettle by beating James in three games with an entertaining 26-24, 13-21 and 21-14 margin on the score board.
