Chaudhry Shujaat says judiciary and parliament shouldn’t clash

Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Saturday said that there should be no confrontation among judiciary and Parliament, adding it could derail the system.

Speaking to the media, the party president said that the institutions should not clash with each other that could lead towards destruction of system. It is vital to mention here that Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s party is the frontline coalition partner of the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP).

Commenting on the recent decision of the apex court, the PML-Q president said that a review appeal could be filed against the verdict.

Earlier on Friday, the Supreme Court declared the Contempt of Court Act 2012 null and void, saying that parliamentarians couldn’t be given immunity.

Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain further said that the issue could also be taken into parliament. Commenting on the prolonged hours of loadshedding, he said this issue will be resolved before next general elections.

Replying to a query, the PML-Q chief said that crucial alliances will be formed two months before the elections that will astonish everyone. Predicting that none of the parties will be able to claim victory in the general elections, he added saying that his party has the majority of winning candidates.

When he was asked about the recent blame game between the PML-N and the PTI, Shujaat said that it was not appropriate to malign Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital (SKMH) in the battle of politics.

Late Friday night, a meeting held at the presidency in which all the coalition partners including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel, Senator Afrasiab Khattak, Dr Farooq Sattar, Senator Babar Khan Ghouri, Senator Abbas Khan Afridi, Munir Khan Orakzai and Hameedullah Jan Afridi.

The alliance decided that it will not back down and intended to counter the striking down of the Contempt of Court Act 2012.

The sitting vowed to resolve that the right of parliament to legislate will be upheld and this right will not allowed to be compromised no matter what the odds and the cost.
