Govt. decides to confront the court: vows to consult parliament on court’s decision

Islamabad: (Saturday, August 04, 2012) President Asif Ali Zardari here on Friday chaired a high level meeting in which the court’s decision to repel the contempt of court law was discussed.

According to the sources, after thorough discussions, the participants of the meeting decided that there would be no compromise on the powers of the legislatures.

Expressing it’s vow to confront the judiciary, the government said, “Allies are ready to pay any price to preserve Parliament’s prerogative to legislate.”

The high level meeting was attended by the Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat, Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, MQM’s Dr Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghouri, ANP’s Haji Adeel, Afrasiab Khattak,
Munir Orakzai, and BNP’s Israrullah Zehri.

The sources, while sharing details of the meeting, said that although consultations on government’s next line of action topped the agenda, but matters pertinent to national affairs also came under discussion.
