PPP issues show-cause notice to Faisal Raza Abidi for press conference against Chief Justice

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has taken notice of the press conference held by Senator Faisal Raza Abidi on Sunday, issuing a show cause notice to him.

Moreover, taking notice of the press briefing, the Supreme Court also summoned a record of it.

The PPP Senator hurled fiery allegations at Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in his press conference. He had also demanded a resignation from him and other judges who were reinstated under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).

The party’s secretary, Jehangir Badar, issued the show cause notice to him. Abidi confirmed receiving the notice.

The show-cause notice was issued to Senator Abidi by PPP Secretary General Jahangir Badar.

Badar asked Senator Abidi to explain his press briefing of Aug 5 in which he had said that while contempt cases against a number of people, including PPP leaders Babar Awan, Sharjeel Memon and Taj Haider, were pending the court had hurriedly convicted a prime minister and sent him home.

While speaking to the media, Faisal Raza Abidi acknowledged having received the notice and said he would respond to it soon. He said he stood by his stance on the matter and was proud of what he had done.

Abidi further claimed that Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was responsible for the alleged financial impropriety done by his son, Dr. Arsalan Iftikhar. “If the chief justice does not tender a resignation, then I will force him out from the same way he had been restored as a judge,” he added.

He further said that the chief justice claimed that he didn’t have any idea where his son got all that money from. Did he asked him where he go Rs900 million from when the case emerged, the Senator questioned?

While producing bank account statements of Dr Arsalan, Abidi said that the person who used to work under somebody else now owns billions of rupees.

He also showed that the billing address mentioned was that of the Chief Justice House in Islamabad.
