Benghazi: Gunmen killed the Libyan army general and high-ranking defence ministry official Mohamed Hadia here on Friday in the city of Binghazi.

Sharing details of the incident, Hadia’s son, Ahmad Hadia said, “My father was returning from the mosque after Friday prayers with a neighbour when a car stopped in front of them with four people on board. They asked for his identity,
then shot him dead.”

According to the police sources investigating into the matter, the motives behind this murder are yet to be searched for and identity of the gunmen is still unknown.

During last year’s revolution that hit Libya, Hadia was among the first officers to defect and join the opposition that ousted Moamer Kadhafi.

As the revolution ended up being successful, Hadia was appointed as head of the armaments at the defence ministry.

Hadia’s incidence is the latest of dozens of security officials murdered in Benghazi, especially of officers who had served under Kadhafi.
