Bradley Wiggins, one of the greatest cyclists ever?

Bradley Wiggins is having the best run of his form with numerous victories to his credit in the first half of the 2012 season.

The cyclist marked his professional debut with Linda McCartney Racing Team in 2001 as a track cyclist and switched his focus towards road cycling later on.

He joined Team Francaise des Jeux (2002-03), Team Credit Agricole (2004-05), Team Cofidis (2006-07) and joined the American side Team High Road for the 2008 season.

Wiggins joined Team Garmin-Slipstream in 2009 and penned a deal with Team Sky to start the 2010 season.

He is amongst the only few cyclists who succeeded at both the track and the road event with his most recent performance coming through the biggest cycling race of the season, the Tour de France.

Bradley became the first British cyclist to secure an overall victory at the second Grand Tour race of the season, the Tour de France 2012.

He also managed to bag the Individual Time Trial stage 9 and the stage 19 of the French race and entered the history books.

His team-mate Christopher Froome finished 3 minute and 21 seconds behind at the second spot with Vincenzo Nibali of Team Liquigas-Cannondale occupying the third position.

“I’ve got to get used to going into the history books now, but I’m just trying to take everything in today first,” Wiggins cited after winning the final stage of the race.

“It’s very surreal at the moment because this type of things [usually] happens to other people. You never imagine it happening to yourself”.

“It’s an incredible achievement for the team. Four years ago we said we were setting out to win the Tour, but we haven’t just done that”.

“We’ve got second place as well and a handful of stages. Seven stages have been won by British guys this year so that’s one in three – not a bad start,” he concluded.

The 32-year-old also holds overall victories at the Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie, Criterium du Dauphine and a third overall position at the Volta ao Algarve 2012.

He bagged stages at all the above mentioned races to mark a perfect start to his 2012 season.

Bradley makes full use of his Tour de France form and proved his dominance at the London Olympics where he won gold medal at the Olympics Road Time Trial event.

The British currently leads the UCI World Tour 2012 ranking with a total number of 601 UCI points in his back pocket.

Joaquim Rodriguez, Vincenzo Nibali, Tom Boonen and Peter Sagan claimed the next four spots with 404, 400, 370 and 351 points in the respective order.

Wiggins has shown great potential throughout his career but his performances in the 2012 season has definitely made him one of the best cyclists all round the world.
