Continuation of democracy only solution of all problems; says PM Ashraf

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on Tuesday said that a strong democratic system could resolve all the issues and ensure progress and prosperity of the country, declaring democracy only solution of all issues.

While addressing a flag hoisting ceremony at the Convention Centre, he observed, “The freedom movement is the best example of a democratic and constitutional struggle that proved to nations of the world that democracy is embedded in the blood of Muslims”.

The premier was of the opinion all issues of the country are linked with continuation of the system.

Applauding the exemplary struggle of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto restoration of democracy in the country to ensure rights of the people and lit the beacon of democracy by laying down their lives.

He added, “We are proud that we have made prominent achievements in the last four years. With Allah’s grace and benevolence, the roots of democracy were strong in Pakistan today”.

In his view it was a matter of satisfaction that the present democratic government had achieved important milestones for political, social and economic progress of Pakistan which had propped the national economy.

He extended an offer of dialogue to all political forces for reconciliation and to hold fair, free and impartial elections in the country, express hopes that the political leaders would cooperate with them in this regard.

The premier continued that the opposition has a vital role in any democratic system and the government has given importance to its positive role.

He added, “We are taking the opposition into confidence (for the next general elections), and for this we have taken a start from the consensus appointment of Chief Election Commissioner”.

Moreover, he said that they want impartial and transparent polls so the transition of power takes place in quite a smooth way, adding that it would be a landmark victory for the continuity of democracy in Pakistan.

Expressing all political parties would fully participate in the next general elections and would play their role for the continuation of democracy.

Ashraf also said that the government has accepted all criticism with patience because it does not believe in confrontation.
