Ecuador opens doors for Assange

Quitto: (Thursday, August 16, 2012) the WikiLeaks’ founder Julian Assange has finally found political asylum in Ecuador. Ecuador’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Ricardo Patino said this on Thursday after a British government threatened
to storm the Ecuadorean embassy in London to arrest Assange.

Britain has repeatedly expressed its resolve to extradite the former computer hacker who, back in 2010, had enraged Washington when the WIkiLeaks website published the secret US diplomatic cables to Sweden where he has been accused
of rape and sexual assault.

Confirming that Assange’s request has been approved by the President of Ecuador, Patino said, “Ecuador has decided to grant political asylum to Julian Assange following the request sent to the President.”
