In defence of Imran Khan

Lately, after failure of the latest PML-N take on Imran Khan vis-à-vis their allegations with regard to money laundering and financial embezzlement in accounts of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, the party’s paid writers and pseudo intellectuals
started telling the nation that like Imran Khan, Sharif family has also been into a lot of charity work, however, it never uses its goodwill to obtain political mileage. And since Khan is doing that, it by no moral standards, is justified.

The idea that all these writers are too simple to understand crux of the matter is not worth believing, they surely very well understand the essence of what they are saying and where they are lying about just to spread confusion among the common people and
to damage the PTI vote bank.

Here, while utilizing this space, I will simply try to make it clear how Khan has never tried to earn political mileage by mentioning his charity related work, rather, he was forced to do so. How, let me explain it.

After 16-years of struggle, when the common people of Pakistan finally started taking Khan serious, his opponents tried to downplay him by saying that he doesn’t have some real political playing in the party and that the Pakistan Tehree-e-Insaaf is only
a one-man-show. Gradually, after observing its popularity and conceding to its idea of change, when one after the other big politicians started to join him, the same people started saying that the IK is trying to bring change in this country with old faces,
which, to them, was not possible. Though now Khan had big faces in his show, but now he faced a different criticism. Interestingly, no one asked such blamers that how could the old parties, that are still rife with such old faces, can claim to bring about
any improvement or change in the country.

Finally they say now Imran Khan is trying to use his charity work to grab political attention. The simplistic answer to this allegation is that, if this charity work could give any political mileage to Khan, he would have long enjoyed the present support
from the masses that he enjoys now. Secondly, it is not him who drags this charity work into the politics, rather, these are his political opponents who do so.

Usually there are questions that how come a guy like Imran, who has never been into power, can deliver on his otherwise unbelievable promises. He has no idea of practical circumstances. It is there when his past achievements come in to explain his position.
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital is the world’s only hospital where 75% cancer patients are treated for free. NIML university is perhaps that only university in world where one earns an internationally recognized university degree worth 8 million rupees
for free, and finally it was him who led this nation to win its first ever world cup. Everyone knows that all these tasks were impossible, yet, with his dedication and hard work, Khan delivered on them. And we believe, he will deliver on his slogan of change
as well.
