Britain’s Gold medal hero Anthony Joshua refuses to turn pro!

The 22-year-old Anthony Joshua is the talk of the town right now because only a few can forget the tremendous ending which he brought to the Olympic boxing tournament with a thrilling count-back victory over Roberto Cammarelle to claim super-heavyweight gold.

As usual Joshua has started getting a lot of lucrative professional offers but the boxer has surprised everyone by refusing to all of them.

The Londoner insisted that he wants to stay as an amateur. He said he would love to defend his title in 2016 over money.

He told The Sun: “This has never been about money. I will stay stay amateur for as long as possible. I quite like the sound of Rio 2016.”

He added: “They don’t recognise the word surrender in that film and neither do I. It got very tough inside that ring but there was no way I was going to give up.”

While the gold medal was draped around Joshua’s neck, he stated it wouldn’t be hard for him to resist all the offers he is getting. He stressed he has never run after money.

Joshua said: “It’s honestly not going to be hard to resist. To leave something as great as the Great Britain set-up just because of money would be a big mistake. I don’t want to lose that because of a bit of money thrown in my face.

“I didn’t grow up with loads of money around me anyway and I’m happy with the way things are. These memories are priceless. I want to go on and win world and European titles and dominate in the amateurs.”

Well, it is certainly an extra-ordinary jester from the 6ft 6in giant and let’s hope he doesn’t change his mind.

Anthony Joshua’s win helped Great Britain to top the boxing table with three golds, one silver and one bronze medal.
