Tunisia requests OIC to raise voice against Myanmar violence

Tuesday, August 21st, 2012 1:03:20 by

Tunisia has requested the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to raise voice against the brutal killing of the Muslims in Myanmar.

Tens of thousands of Muslims are being killed in Burma by the Buddhists in the day light but no human right organization is coming forward for the help.

However, now it seems as if Muslim countries have finally decided to come out. The request was made in Geneva during a coordination meeting of the OIC’s permanent representatives to the UN and it was approved by many Muslim countries like Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Iran and Sudan. The news was confirmed by a communiqué from the Tunisian foreign affairs ministry.

“Tunisia voices its deep concern about the tension prevailing in Myanmar and condemns the exactions against the Muslim minority there,” the communique said.

The forthcoming OIC summit is due to take place in Jeddah of Saudi Arabia in this month.

Many say that the violence started after three Bengali-Muslims raped and murdered one of the ethnic Rakhine women.

However the main reason behind is the religion. Muslims have been living in the country since the beginning but Buddhist community have not accepted them as of yet. As a result to which they are killing them and burning their houses.

All of this is happening for the past many years but no human right organization has come forward till now to address the issue, which is now becoming one of the hottest in the world.

Although there are a few steps being taken now but the killings are still going on. Recently, Myanmar’s government has lifted suspension on two weekly journals after rare protests by journalists were carried out in two cities to demand press freedom.

Israel has also shown concerns for the situation in Myanmar and has urged the government to demonstrate restraint and refrain from harming demonstrator.

Well, all said and done, let’s hope the violence against innocent Muslims in Myanmar stops.
