Who sets our national agendas?

Who sets our national agendas?

As a nation, do we have a clear roadmap to follow? This perhaps is the question of the day. The world knows us as a nation which is always ready to change its stances over issues and to take the u-turns. We don’t stick to our words and always prefer small
benefits over national pride. We have been facing severe energy crisis, our international credibility is at stake, the world is minimizing its interaction with us and feeling it a lot safer and protected without us.

The irony is that during the days of a dictatorial regime, the world knew as an emerging financial power where foreign direct investment was continuously increasing, the world was admitting our role and sacrifices in the war against terrorism and was ready
to believe in us as a nation.

As soon we are ‘blessed’ with the democracy, we have hit the bottom of virtually everything. From an emerging and promising financial power that had said good bye to the International Monetary Fund, we are back to claim our status of a begging nation who
always looks around for others pocket for meeting its all kind of expenditure. While the government has massive funds for self projection over petty issues and proving itself innocent over severe legal and constitutional violence, it wants other countries
to spend and take care of the education of our children, health of our people and defence of our country.

We perhaps are the only country in the world that is being led by an army of self-centered ignorant people whose entire interest lie in grabbing more and more public money by all means. Had we had competent leaders carefully selected due to their integrity,
their professionalism and other credentials, we could have done a lot better and could have salvaged our respect and dignity in the world.

While the pessimism is rife over our present state of affairs in the country, the fact is that not all is lost as yet, and we  still can bounce back and can find our true place among the comity of nations if we learn to make our choices rationally and instead
of going for bradaries, could go for selecting merit based leaders this time around.
