Lindaweni Fanetri topples Sapsiree Taerattanachai in Women’s Singles semi-final at Vietnam Open

Lindaweni Fanetri, the most impressive shuttler from put up staggering show of top class badminton and landed a title berth after defeating Thailand’s Sapsiree Taerattanachai in semi-final clash at the Vietnam Open Grand Prix 2012 in Vietnam,
on August 25.

The impressive Lindaweni, who showed a tremendous performance in all of her previous encounters, remained consistent against her higher ranked Thai opponent and defeated her in a close fashion.

The lower ranked Lindaweni failed to utilise her lofty skills in first set but she proved her mettle in the following games and won the match in rubber sets with a reasonable margin.

Sapsiree, who was seeded at number four, won the opening game easily but failed to maintain her upper hand over the Indonesian shuttler in the following games and lost the match with a decent score.

The aggressive Thai player showed good performance by playing dominating badminton in opening set of the match and remained successful in setting up a good lead until mid-game interval.

Lindaweni tried her best to reduce the deficit after the break by gearing up her speed but failed to create pressure on her rival and lost the first set by a 15-21 score on the board.

However, the following set was quite different from the first one as the Indonesian shuttler played positive and attacking badminton and remained close to her rival until the end of opening half.

After the interval, Lindaweni remained consistent on court by showing a positive play and maintained her upper hand over her Thai rival at the initial stage.

The in-form Indonesian shuttler was focused at the ending phase of second set and she took it with a superb margin of 21-16.

In the decider, both shuttlers played remarkable badminton in opening half and remained neck-to-neck until the one-minute mid-game interval.

After the break, the impressive Lindaweni dominated the pace of rallies and created a wonderful pressure on her opponent.

The Indonesian player remained in commanding position throughout the concluding phase and eventually won the game with a superb 21-16 score on the board.

The spirited Lindaweni emerged as victorious in three sets as she ended up the contest with a wonderful difference of 15-21, 21-16 and 21-16.
