Adobe Systems announced the new version of the online television viewing program Adobe Pass 2.0. The program will enable TV content providers authenticate and verify subscribers among other features.

Adobe has been working hard on TV Everywhere program, an international term used by television content providers and support system developers. The term encompasses all the TV content that is provided online to PCs, tablets and smartphones.

The trend is growing and according to Adobe around 7 Million people watched the 2012 London Olympics online. About 70 percent of subscription was streamed to PCs and the rest 30 percent to tablets and smartphones. Appleā€™s iOS devices, such as iPad and iPhone, were the biggest recipient of the programming, accounting for almost 81 percent.

Adobe said in a statement that it is now working with 25 top television programmers and that makes it the market leader. The largest trend shift was seen in the recent Olympics, however, the company is also working on expanding the content to other channels.

“Adobe Pass supported NBC Olympics’ verification efforts for its coverage of the London Olympics, which resulted in more than 88 million authenticated streams to U.S. viewers, the highest number recorded for a single event in TV Everywhere history,” Adobe said.

Rovi, another support system developer, is working on expanding the online television market abroad. It has inked a contract with German content providing company called Media Markt Germany for the streaming of their content, mostly movies and their download to mobile and PC devices.

“Rovi is committed to helping content owners, service providers, and leading retailers like Media Markt, deliver easy-to-use and broadly accessible digital entertainment services that resonate with consumers and drive new revenue streams,” Leander Carell, a Rovi senior technology manager, said in the announcement.

“Looking at the longer term for us, we’re trying to have more of a strategy with all the IP (Internet Protocol) delivery happening on multiple devices with service providers,” he said.
