Ajay Devgn: ‘Son of Sardar’ doesn’t show Sikhs in a bad light

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn has come out in defence of his upcoming film ‘Son of Sardar’, which is scheduled to hit the cinema halls on Diwali (November 13).

Last Tuesday, the All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) urged the clergy to take actions against Devgn’s film since they believe it doesn’t show Sikh community in a positive manner.

The issue occurred after following lines were said in the films:

“If Sikhs weren’t there, then who would have invented abuses” and “If Sardar weren’t there, then on whom would the jokes be made.”

Akal Takht (the highest temporal seat of the Sikh religion) head Gurbachan Singh, AISSF president Karnail Singh demanded action against the actor for hurting their religious sentiments of Sikhs.

However, Ajay has said that he has a lot respect for the Sikh community and his film will make them proud instead of hurting them.

“My film Son of Sardaar does not hurt anybody’s sentiments. I’m from Punjab and I have lot of respect for the community and culture as anyone else and the last thing I would do is to hurt anyone. In fact, I’m very proud of the community,” Ajay said in a statement.

The actor has urged the Sikh community to wait till the film gets released because he feels everyone’s thinking about his film will change afterwards.

“At no point you will find any element of disrespect. The protagonist of the film is a Sardaar so the film will showcase a very positive projection of the community. If you could just wait for the release and then come up with your comments and opinion. Trust me, we all will be proud of the film,” said the 43-year-old, whose roots are in Amritsar.

The romance drama film ‘Son of Sardar’ will feature Ajay Devgn in the lead role and along with him the likes of Sunjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Juhi Chawla, Mukul Dev and Vindu Dara Singh will also play key roles in the movie.

Well, all said and done, let’s wait and watch how Sikh community responds to Ajay Devgn.
