Qing Xu and Mirjam de Koning-Peper secure gold medals – 2012 Paralympic Games

Qing Xu and Mirjam de Koning-Peper secured gold medals of Men and Women’s 50m backstroke in S6 class respectively at the 2012 London Paralympic Games.

With his persistent efforts in the single lap freestyle event, Xu remained more than a body length faster from his subsequent rival and lowered the world record of the event with a wonderful timing of 28.57 seconds.

The gold medallist was followed by Lorenzo Perez Escalona, who remained almost 1.50 seconds slower and clocked a nice time of 30.04 seconds.

Escalona was trailed by Tao Zheng, who stayed 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and finished third in the race by reporting a phenomenal time of 30.06 seconds.

The bronze medallist was traced by Sebastian Iwanow, who was 0.77 seconds slower from overpowering his former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 30.83 seconds.

Iwanow was chased by Kyosuke Oyama, who remained 1.11 seconds apart and ended his race in fifth place by touching the wall with a timing of 31.94 seconds.

Afterwards, Koning-Peper dominated the equivalent event in Women’s corner. With her gruelling efforts, she stayed half body length ahead of her strongest challenger and occupied gold medal of the race by producing an incredible time of 34.77 seconds.

The gold medallist was followed by Victoria Arlen, who stayed 0.55 seconds away from upsetting her former finisher and hit the wall with a wonderful timing of 35.32 seconds for silver medal.

Arlen was traced by Eleanor Simmonds, who stayed nearly 0.75 seconds behind and clocked a timing of 36.11 seconds for bronze medal.

Fourth best spot of the race was secured by Tanja Groepper, who stayed 0.17 seconds apart and settled on the finishing blockade by reporting a time of 36.28 seconds.

Groepper stayed 0.49 seconds ahead of Oksana Khrul, who emerged on the finishing end as fifth best finisher and clocked a time of 36.77 seconds.

In addition, the arena appreciated gruelling efforts of all participants while the position holders received medals and accolades for their stunning forms at the medal ceremony of the event.
