Great Britain’s Dane Hall and Brazil’s Andre Silva successfully advanced through into the second round (Round of 96) at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 3-Star Cabreiroa Pantin Classic Pro after clinching victory in their respective Round 1 (Round of 112) heats that went down at the primary event site of Playa de Pantin in Galicia, Spain, on Wednesday, September 12.

Denmark’s Christoffer Hartkopp finished behind in Hall in the seventh heat, thus moving alongside the latter into the next heat. Venezuela’s Ronald Reyes finished in third place while French Polynesia’s Tereva David had to settle for fourth place. Both the surfers were forced to leave the contention for the event title as a result.

The eighth heat saw Silva walk away with the win, while Reunion Island’s Hugo Cornec finished in second place, thus accompanying the winner into the second round. Venezuela’s Colin Saunders finished in third place, while Netherland’s Roy Van Eijk finished in fourth place. This resulted in their elimination from the contention for the event title.

The up-and-coming surfing talent from around the globe found themselves struggling to adapt to the demanding conditions on offer. There was not enough juice in the two-to-three foot waves that were breaking at the iconic Playa de Pantin, but this was something the surfers needed to adjust to quickly as there were not going to get another chance to put on a good performance.

The seventh heat saw Hall take on Hartkopp, Reyes and David in a four-man bout for survival. The British surfer opened his account in the opening minutes of the heat with a 3.83-point ride and went on to post an additional 5.33 points on the score-board, thus finishing with a heat-total of 9.16 points.

Hartkopp made the Round 2 cut as well after scoring a 3.50 and 4.33 off his best-two waves for a heat-total of 7.83 points.

Reyes and David finished with a heat-total of 6.80 and 6.64 points respectively, consequently getting eliminated from the competition.

Silva claimed top honours in the eighth heat after getting the better of Cornec, Saunders and Eijk. The Brazilian surfer patiently waited for the right wave before going all out on his first business-wave to post a 7.33 on the score-board. He backed it up with a 6.13-point ride in the final minutes of the heat, thus finishing with a heat-total of 13.46 points.

Cornec extended his life in the next round as well after scoring a couple of scores in the three-point range to finish with a heat-total of 7.54 points.

Saunders and Eijk got eliminated from the competition after rounding out the bottom-two positions with a heat-total of 6.27 and 4.93 points respectively.
