GoDaddy under cyber attack, hacking community Anonymous takes the blame

The hacking community is again in action. The group claimed the responsibility of the outage on all the websites either hosted by GoDaddy.com or whose domain names are managed by their register.

GoDaddy experienced the outage starting this Monday and its periodically updating the public on the official Tweeter account. The company said it has made progress and will zero the problem down.

“Update: Still working on it, but we’re making progress. Some service has already been restored. Stick with us,” said a message posted at the GoDaddy account.

On the other hand, Anonymous has accepted the responsibility on the same social network. An allegedly Anonymous handled Tweeter account said in the post that it will behind all the cyber fiasco.

“I’m taking godaddy down bacause well i’d like to test how the cyber security is safe and for more reasons that i can not talk now,” the Twitter user, who goes by the handle Anonymous Own3r, wrote.

GoDaddy claims that it hosts 10.5 million websites and manages more than 53 million domain names all over the world. The company is clearly one of the big shots in the cyber world. There is no official word on how many websites were under the e-attack by the hackers but the magnitude to the response it has gathered in the last few days suggests it was a large scale attack.

Earlier in March, AntiSec, a group said to be affiliated with Anonymous, hacked in and out of an FBI agent’s laptop computer and scooped out around 12 Million Apple IDs on different Apple-run platforms. However, some sources have suggested that the IDs were stolen from a server. AntiSec linked the steal with FBI agent to imply that Apple intentionally supplied the bureau with the IDs. So far there has been found no truth in both claims and Apple has refused to comment on the matter.
