In order to reduce the miseries of masses, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has announced a special relief package worth Rs2 billion for the flood victims.

While visiting the flood-affected areas of Sindh, the premier directed the immediate release of Rs710 million for Sindh, which includes Rs200 million each for Kashmore and Jacobabad, Rs70 million for Ghotki, Rs100 million each for Mirpur Khas and Sukkhar.

While speaking to the media persons, he said that more funds would be allocated as required.

He also appreciated the role of army and paramilitary forces and the provincial governments in providing relief to the people, saying children, elderly and women should get relief at the earliest.

PM Ashraf also directed the provision of 25000 tents for the flood-affected areas on immediate basis, adding that similar relief packages should be finalized for South Punjab and Balochistan.

Although the premier announced relief package for Sindh, people in Balochistan are not happy over efforts the government made to combat the situation.

It is vital to mention here that the government didn’t announced any package for nearly 100, 000 people, who had been uprooted from their homes by torrential floods unleashed by the monsoon rains in several areas of Balochistan.

Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali while speaking to a daily said that the government hadn’t established a single relief camp for the people in the flood-hit districts of Jaffarabad and Naseerabad.

He observed that the federation has left the flood victims at the mercy of Allah, asking the premier for immediate release of funds.

He stated, “Around 100,000 people, camped along a canal and National Highway, are desperately waiting for government help after losing their houses to the floods”.

He questioned that why the premier hasn’t announced any relief package for Balochistan, saying that the scale of devastation was no less in the province where over 300,000 houses have been washed away.

Terming it completely injustice, the minister said that the there was not a single camp has been set up in the province by the federal government.
