Michael Meyer and Michelle Weber secure gold medals – African Senior Championships

Michael Meyer and Michelle Weber clinched gold medals of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) and Women’s 1500m freestyle at the 11th African Senior Swimming Championships 2012.

Meyer faced strong battle from his following swimmer but managed to secure top qualifying position of the event by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 14.40 seconds.

Meyer was trailed by Mehdi Hamama, who remained 0.59 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade as second position holder by submitting an effort of 2 minutes and 14.99 seconds.

Hamama was traced by Pedro Pinotes, who was 2.67 seconds apart and occupied third best qualification spot of the race by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 17.66 seconds.

Fourth finest spot of the event was secured by Taki Mrabet, who suffered a loss of 1.60 seconds from his foregoing finisher and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 19.26 seconds.

The 23-year-old Mrabet was followed by El Sayed Gadalla, who remained only 0.04 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end as fifth best finisher by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 19.30 seconds.

Afterwards, Weber accomplished gold medal of the Women’s 1500m freestyle. The 15-year-old Weber, who was evidently strong for gold medal, smothered hopes of her opponents and pocketed the title with a timing of 16 minutes and 46.46 seconds.

The gold medallist was trailed by Kyna Pereira, who stayed almost half a minute behind and stepped on the victory stand for silver medal by posting a time of 17 minutes and 14.24 seconds.

Third finest spot of the race was obtained by Reem Mohamed Hussein, who remained nearly 14 seconds behind and submitted a time of 17 minutes and 28.34 seconds.

The bronze medallist was traced by Souad Cherouati, who stayed considerably slower from her former finisher and posted a time of 18 minutes and 01.47 seconds for fourth position.

In addition, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at hte victory ceremony of the event.
