In quite a shocking move, former chief minister and head of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) Sardar Akhtar Mengal on Friday said that his six-point charter should not be considered any different from the six-points presented by Sheikh Mujeeb-ur-Rehman.

While addressing a joint press conference after having a high-level meeting with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, he defended his six-points earlier submitted in Supreme Court for the resolution of the Baloch issue. Why shouldn’t we part our ways peacefully,” he added.

The disgruntled leader was of the opinion that it didn’t contain anything against the constitution or law of the land, adding that the Baloch people will not held any talks if the charter was not implemented.

Expressing grief, Mengal said that the situation in the province would have been better if the six-point agenda was earlier implemented. In his view, the genuine Baloch leadership should be given priority over the hand-made leadership.

He stated, “Sensitivity of the situation would have to be considered and that none of the six points presented are against the constitution or law.”

Mengal said that blood of thousands of Bengalis was killed in East Pakistan and same was happening in Balochistan as the locals were being killed and their bodies were being dumped.

Mengal lauded the Supreme Court of Pakistan for its efforts in resolving the missing persons’ issue. He said that the situation in Balochistan aggravated due to the elements who considered them above law.

The angry Baloch leader said that election was not priority of Baloch politicians. “Whatever is happening in Balochistan is not part of our tradition instead it is imported,” Mengal added.

“Had those, who are at the helm of affairs realized situation earlier it would not have worsened,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz Sharif held army rulers responsible for worsening situation in Balochistan.

He said that he was aware of the agony Akhtar Mengal was suffering from as he himself had undergone the same situation to some extent in the past when his government was toppled and he was sent behind bars.

The former prime minister said that killing of Akbar Bugti further aggravated Balochistan situation. He criticized Pervez Musharraf for the killing of veteran Baloch leader.
