Bollywood director Yash Copra has confirmed that ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ will be his last directorial venture.
Chopra, who is considered as one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of Hindi cinema, made the announcement on Thursday at an event marking his 80th birthday with superstar Shah Rukh Khan by his side.
Chopra told SRK while having conversation, “I think I’ve had enough, Shah Rukh”.
“I have always lived according to what my heart tells me,” he said. “I won’t make any film after Jab Tak Hai Jaan.”
Chopra, who has won several film awards, including six National Film Awards and eleven Filmfare awards including four Filmfare Award for Best Director, told SRK that he now wants to move on into mentor mode.
He said, “Like they say,the best thing sweeat at theend. I want to do other things now. Launch new people. My wife has been complaining, so I will make her happy.”
Chopra is known as the ‘king of romance’ in Bollywood industry and Shah Rukh Khan has always been his favorite actor.
When asked about it, the filmmaker revealed that he shares a very good equation with the superstar and it all happened after they did ‘Darr’ together.
He said, “ShahRukh never asks me about the script. Or the fee.”
Yash Chopra has provided evergreen film like Dhool Ka Phool (1959) Dharmputra (1961) Waqt (1965) Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969) Ittefaq (1969) Daag (1973) Joshila (1973) Deewaar (1975) Kabhi Kabhie (1976) Trishul (1978) Kaala Patthar (1979) Silsila (1981) Mashaal (1984) Faasle (1985) Vijay (1988) Chandni (1989) Lamhe (1991) Parampara (1992) Darr (1993) Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) and Veer-Zaara (2004) to the Bollywood industry.
Well, all said and done, Chopra’s forthcoming film ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, which is one of the most eagerly awaited films of this season, is scheduled to hit the cinemas on Diwali (November 13).
The film will feature Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles.
