Endorsing the points raised by Baloch leader Sardar Akhtar Mengal, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan blamed a non-representative provincial government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the region.

The cricketer-turned-politician issued a statement, saying that the real political stakeholders in the province had boycotted elections and that the incumbent assembly was full of corrupt politicians who were only interested in plundering public money.

He noted, “We strongly believe that all political parties should be allowed to function freely to prepare the stage for a representative assembly. They can then concentrate on emergency measures to redress the grievances of the people of Balochistan.”

The former captain also commented over the alleged covert and overt military operations in the troubled province, saying that military action against Pakistanis did not provide any solutions rather it destroy the peace process.

Terming the military operations destructive, he said that he had opposed each of them further deteriorated the situation in the province.

Khan said that the damage could still be repaired even though it was extensive, seeking the light in the fast darkening scenario of Balochistan.

He stated, “The issue of death squads and missing persons was alarming for the Baloch people where socio-economic indicators have already fallen to their lowest levels.”

The former cricketer made an appeal for the arrest of culprits in missing persons’ cases, saying that families of thousands of missing people had no idea about the whereabouts of their loved ones.

He continued that murderers of the former Governor of Balochistan Sardar Akbar Bugti should be brought to book.

Earlier, Akhtar Mengal termed his six points as the only way to find a tangible solution to unrest in the province. In his view, these points were not against the Constitution, alleging that security agencies are responsible for the plight of his people, but refrained from naming any.

He had earlier submitted his charter to the Supreme Court when he ended his three-year exile to attend a hearing on the Balochistan law and order case.
