PML-N to move resolution for formation of All Parties Commission on Balochistan issue

Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will move a resolution in Parliament regarding the formation of an All-Parties Commission on the Balochistan issue.

The opposition leader while addressing a press conference in Islamabad said that his party was making efforts to bring back the estranged province into the federation. He made it clear that he was not recommending this step for point-scoring but to rectify past mistakes.

Commenting on the formation of the commission, Chaudhry Nisar proposed that many important non-parliamentary parties along with parties in the parliament should also be made part of this committee.

He noted, “Parties from Balochistan, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party should also have representation in the committee.”

Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was of the opinion that this body would function in a parliamentary, political and democratic manner, adding that it would also supplement the Supreme Court’s proceedings in cases pertaining to law and order situation in Balochistan.

The opposition leader explained, “The commission would open lines of communication with Baloch nationalists, who did not have any trust in the government, highlighting the government’s indifferent reaction to Sardar Akhtar Mengal’s recently proposed six points to resolve the Balochistan issue.”

When he was asked about six-point agenda announced by Akhtar Mengal, he said that they don’t hint at a revolution.

He further asked that where does the six-point agenda speak of separation from the federation but instead it speaks of bringing to justice those responsible for the atrocities in the province.

The opposition leader continued that every government was responsible for the crisis in Balochistan, particularly the Musharraf regime.

In his view, the issue will not be resolved until the nation seriously deals with the problems in Pakistan’s largest province and mistakes are rectified.

Last week Sardar Akhtar Mengal submitted a six-point agenda in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, saying that it is the last effort to save the province.
