Federal Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the Frontier Corps (FC) couldn’t be called back from Balochistan at the request of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif.

While speaking to the media, the minister said that the government would pull out the FC from Balochistan if Nawaz Sharif takes the responsibility of resolving security issues in the troubled province.

He observed, “The Pakistan Peoples’ Party-led government has always owned up to mistakes made in the past, even if they were made by previous leaderships. My party has been doing this in order to prevent any damage caused to Pakistan’s image.”

He was of the opinion that the PPP doesn’t please people by sloganeering like Sharif and other opposition parties.

He noted, “Issues should not be politicized at any cost for political and personal gains. Only 5% area is settled and 95% area was being controlled through FC in the province.”

Replying to a question about Southern Punjab Province, Qamar Zaman Kaira said that Nawaz Sharif demanded for a commission over the issue and while commission was setup, they again assumed silence adding that no commission was required as per the constitution of the country.

He was asked why the party leadership didn’t hold any meeting with former chief minister and leader of Balochistan National Party (BNP) Akhtar Mengal while all opposition partied did so.

Without giving any solid reply, the minister said that it was better to avoid going into details as it would further increase the bitterness of the issue.  He opined, “The party has welcomed him and that nothing more could be said on the matter.”

Earlier, PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif warned that the fluid security situation in the province will worsen if hidden powers tried to influence the next parliamentary election.

Following a meeting with Jamhoori Watan Party (JWP) leader Talal Bugti in Raiwind, Nawaz had said political forces should be given a chance to play a role in restoring normalcy in Balochistan.
