Chinese Taipei Open: Tien Minh Nguyen reserves his berth in Men’s Singles quarter-final

Tien Minh Nguyen, the most successful and decorated shuttler from Vietnam, continued his impressive run and reached into Men’s Singles quarter-final after proving his worth in the round-of-16 stage against Malaysia’s Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin at Chinese
Taipei Open GP Gold 2012 in Chinese Taipei, on October 4.

The higher ranked Tien Minh, who was the second seeded shuttler in the Men’s Singles main draw of the tournament, was at his best as he claimed his place in the top-eight by ending up the victorious run of Iskandar in a crafty manner.

Second seeded Tien Minh has been working really hard to win a major title for the last few months and seems to get close in this tournament to earn glory which could put him on the right track.

Tien Minh played tremendous badminton against his un-seeded Malaysian opponent and he managed to win the battle in straight games with wonderful difference.

In the meanwhile, the lower ranked Iskandar was not at his best as he found it hard to create gaps in his rival’s court and he also failed to dominate the pace of rallies at the ending points.

Lower ranked Malaysian player went down to his Vietnamese challenger without showing up any considerable show on court.

Both players showed a tremendous display of attacking badminton in opening set and stayed close on score board in starting points of this contest.

However, the in-form Tien Minh played a few fabulous shots towards the end of first half and managed an 11-8 gap until the end of opening half.

In the concluding phase, the un-seeded Iskandar changed his tactics and played with aggression leaving no room for his rival and levelled the score by reaching at 11-11.

At this stage, the impressive Tien Minh changed his tactics and played with precision which helped him to claim the opening set with a comfortable 21-17 score on the board.

In the second game, both participants played positive and fast badminton and no one could take a reasonable lead until the mid-game interval.

After the break, the second seeded Tien Minh took over the control of rallies by employing powerful smashes and won the set with a four-point margin of 21-17.

The impressive Tien Minh emerged as the winner in this round-of-16 battle in straight sets with a 21-17 and 21-17 score on the board.
