Rehman Malik warns media about Taliban’s attack

Confirming the reports, Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday revealed that the militants have planned to target some media houses and anchors on their coverage of Malala Yousafzai.

Speaking to the media, he said that the intelligence agencies were working to attain sensitive details about the plan and subsequently their counters.

The minister informed the media that there were alerts regarding the probable militants’ attack on some of the media houses and media professionals, adding that he had directed the intelligence authorities to gather complete information about in this regard.

Replying to a query about Malala Yousafzai, Rehman Malik said that the civil and military leadership mutually took a decision to send Malala abroad for treatment.

He said Malala’s transfer to Britain was kept secret for security concerns. He also thanked the UAE government for providing an air ambulance to transfer Malala Yousufzai to Britain for treatment.

He further said that the civil and military leaderships are in consultations over the matters of national importance and decisions are made with consent. In reply to a question, he ruled out any possibility of military operation in North Waziristan Agency.

The minister said the conspiracy to attack Malala Yousufzai was hatched by militant groups operating at Pak-Afghan border.

He noted, “For the time being there is no plan for military operation in North Waziristan. But if needed, the decision would be taken by political and military leadership of the country in harmony.”

At the same time, he announced military award ‘Sitara-e-Shujaat’ for deceased SP Rural Khurshid Khan for fighting militants with bravery and courage.

He said that the martyred police official led the force from the front in fighting the militants at Ghaziabad police-post in Matni area of Peshawar.

The minister said that the whole nation salute Khurshid Khan for fighting against the militants with bravery and shedding his last drop of the blood for the nation.

The minister also conveyed his condolences for the aggrieved family. The interior minister further directed IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa submit the report of the incident.
