World number one Victoria Azarenka conquers Generali Ladies Linz – Tennis News

Top seed, Victoria Azarenka from Belarus, got the better of the German beauty, Julia Goerges, in straight sets at the Generali Ladies Linz 2012 on Sunday. She notched up a 6-3, 6-4 victory against the fifth seed to grab her sixth year-to-date title at this
WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International-level tournament held in Linz, Austria.

The Belarusian number one, Azarenka cruised to a 6-3, 5-0 lead when Goerges found her momentum and hit back. However, the German was serving at 4-5 when Azarenka unveiled her class again and ultimately conquered the tournament.

The ecstatic Azarenka was quoted in a courtside interview:

"At 5-0 it felt like such a comfortable lead. I think I won seven games in a row at that point. But then Julia just went for her shots, and I kind of misjudged the situation. I felt like the match was already in my hands, but Julia is such an unpredictable
player, and the momentum can turn around really quickly with her, and it did. I wasn’t really expecting to have such a change."

The Belarusian star reflected about finding her rhythm at 4-5 30-all in the second set:

"I’m glad I stayed in the moment," Azarenka said. "I did the right things at that moment to finish the match and I’m very happy I managed to win today.”

The 23-year-old failed to smash an ace and spilled equal number of double faults. However, she clobbered a better first serve share of 69 per cent as compared to her rival’s 58 per cent and impressively marked 25 out of 38 points on it.

Azarenka is now 13-0 after the bowing out to Serena Williams at the US Open, last of the four Grand Slam events held in Queens, New York City.
