Zhixian Yang and Sarah Katsoulis win gold medals – FINA Swimming World Cup

Zhixian Yang and Sarah Katsoulis won gold medals of the Men’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) and Women’s 100m breaststroke at the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Beijing.

Yang remained significantly ahead of his rivals and emerged on the wall for gold medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 05.62 seconds.

The champion was chased by Travis Mahoney, who remained almost four seconds slower from him and occupied silver medal of the discipline by posting a time of 4 minutes and 09.69 seconds.

The silver medallist was followed by Feilian Mao, who stayed 0.99 seconds apart and surfaced on the finishing end as third best finisher by producing an effort of 4 minutes and 10.68 seconds.

Mao was traced by Shane Asbury, who was 4.32 seconds apart and settled on the wall as fourth fastest swimmer by reporting an effort of 4 minutes and 15.00 seconds.

Fifth fastest spot of the discipline was secured by Xiang Li, who was 1.95 seconds behind and ended his race in a time of 4 minutes and 16.95 seconds.

Afterwards, Katsoulis captured the title of breaststroke discipline. She showed no leniency to her opponents in the race and proved her mettle for gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 05.30 seconds.

The gold medallist was traced by Sally Foster, who was 0.67 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end for silver medal by touching the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 05.97 seconds.

The second position holder was trailed by Rebecca Ejdervik, who stayed 0.14 seconds apart and tapped the wall for bronze medal with a timing of 1 minute and 06.11 seconds.

Fourth fastest spot of the race was gained by Rie Kaneto, who remained 0.21 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end with an effort of 1 minute and 06.32 seconds.

Subsequently, Kaneto was chased by Sun Ye, who suffered a loss of only 0.12 seconds from her foregoing finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 06.44 seconds for fifth place.

In addition, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the prize ceremony of the tournament.
