Maldives ensure narrow win over Pakistan

The Green Shirts were unable to find a way past the South Asian side and also missed a spot-kick that eventually allowed their opponents to come out on top.

Saeed Ahmed’s missed penalty late in the game cost Pakistan the chance to settle for a draw and now the Green Kickers need to at least draw their next game in order to stand a chance of making the final.

Coach Zavisa Milosavljevic was naturally far from pleased and claimed that missed chances and failure to convert the spot-kick was the reason behind his side’s defeat.

“I think all the boys played in excellent manner but we could not convert the penalty which harmed us a lot,” said the Serb.

“We had a good ball possession and the team was in real element but it is a big problem that we are unable to convert chances,” the former Lesotho boss was quoted as saying to the media.
