PML-F’s Makhdoom Ahmed to be new Punjab governor

The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to replace Punjab Governor Latif Khosa with Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) Parliamentary leader in Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood.

President Asif Ali Zardari has offered the post to him and the offer has been accepted. “President Zardari today offered me Punjab governorship which I have accepted,” he noted.

Mahmood, who will replace Sardar Latif Khosa, said he had discussed the matter with the chief of his party Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi before accepting the offer. President Zardari wanted a man like Makhdoom Mahmood in Punjab because of his ‘good relations’ with PML-N leaders, says media reports.

He noted, “Besides, President Zardari thinks he will be instrumental in installing a consensus caretaker set-up in Punjab because of being in the good books of the Sharif Brothers.”

Differences cropped up between the PML-F and PML-N following the latter’s ‘solo flight’ in Sindh and south Punjab to woo some strong individuals.

“The PML-N started annoying the PML-F when it welcomed people like former MNA Ahmed Anwar from Khanpur and former minister of state Raees Munir from Sadiqabad without consulting me,” Mahmood said.

“If the PML-N does not want to consult us regarding its political arrangements in south Punjab and Sindh then we too don’t need it,” said the influential landlord who is an MPA from Rahimyar Khan.

The PPP was advised to woo the PML-F when its relations with the PML-N deteriorated. The Functional League also showed its strength recently by holding a large meeting in Hyderabad.

He added, “We were not expecting the PML-N to ignore us while taking certain political figures into its fold. We have also made it clear to everyone that the PML-F will contest the coming polls with its own symbol, flower.”

Some reports also claimed that the PML-F leader has tendered his resignation from the provincial assembly his party membership.

According to PML-F leader Imtiaz Sheikh, Pir Pagara took the resignation from Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood, an MPA from Rahim Yar Khan and President of Punjab chapter of PML- F. Imtiaz Sheikh said the PML-F will air its stance during a press conference scheduled for Friday.

Congratulations to Makhdumzada Ahmed Mehmud on his elevation to the position pf Governor of Punjab province. Makhdum sahib should immediately declare his home town Rahim Yar Khan as Divisional Head quarter by upgrading Sadiqabad as district. It’s demand of the people since long because Rahim Yar Khan is one of the oldest district in South Punjab and by the time earned an importance in the country. This town has lot facilities which other towns of it’s do not have. Upgrading Rahim yar Khan as a division will provide many other opportunities to people of this backward area where people have to travel to go to division HQ Bahawalpur. Regrads.
