After U.S. drones, Pakistan now braces for MQM Chief’s drone

Chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, Altaf Hussain, said Sunday that he would launch a “political drone attack” in three days and no one in Pakistan will be able to launch a counter attack.

In a statement the self-exiled MQM leader said his drone will hit the country on Tuesday (January 8). However, he neither explained the nature of the attack, nor the intended target of the strike.

Hussain has been living in exile in London for years over security concerns in Pakistan and he is facing contempt of court charges fir his remarks against the highest judiciary.

The MQM has now filed a petition, begging the apex court to absolve him personal court appearance.

In a statement released by the MQM early on Sunday morning, Altaf hoped that once he launches his drone attack in the next 72 hours, no one in Pakistan can launch a counter political drone attack.

The MQM chief urged his party workers to prepare themselves for the strike and for its after effects.

Hussain, whose MQM has been enjoying power for ten years, in a surprising decision declared support for the long-march on Islamabad by Minhajul Quran International chief Dr Tahirul Qadri on January 14. Qadri, now a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, returned to Lahore after spending five years there.

The MQM support for Qadri’s march surprised many in Pakistan he is part of the ruling coalition and his announcement means he is marching against himself and that is also after MQM ministers received all privileges and are still receiving the same.

Altaf Hussain had in the past also fired drones – by quitting the government — but that missiles could not explode as had to re-join the cabinet just after few days.

Although Hussain statement of drone strike is vague, it is believed that he could part ways with the government or return to Pakistan to appear in person in the Supreme Court. This is just a guess and things will be clear in the coming hours.

The MQM chief, on a number of occasions, has asked his party leaders and activists about his return but they suggested him to stay away from Pakistan in view of security threats to his life.
