Amelia Gould and Regan Leong snare gold medals – 2012 Australian Youth Olympic Festival

Amelia Gould and Regan Leong snared gold medals of the 200m freestyle in Women and Men’s category at the 2012 Australian Youth Olympic Festival.

She remained in a prominent lead over her toughest competitor and surfaced on the finishing end for gold medal by producing an effort of 1 minute and 59.79 seconds.

The champion was traced by Tsuzumi Hasegawa, who was two and a half body lengths apart and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 02.07 seconds.

The silver medallist was chased by Chihiro Igarashi, who stayed only 0.30 seconds behind and tapped the wall for bronze medal by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 02.37 seconds.

Fourth best spot of the event was obtained by Lili Margitai, who remained only 0.30 seconds slower and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 02.67 seconds.

Margitai was followed by Sara Joo, who was nearly 0.40 seconds behind and emerged on the finishing end for fifth position by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 03.11 seconds.

On the other hand, Leong captured gold medal of the similar event in Men’s corner. His stupendous effort stayed only an inch ahead of his closest competitor and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 48.97 seconds.

The first position holder was chased by Alexander Graham, who remained 0.02 seconds slower from his foregoing finisher and surfaced on the finishing end for silver medal by clocking an effort of 1 minute and 48.99 seconds.

The silver medallist was traced by Mack Horton, who remained 1.20 seconds slower from his former finisher and secured bronze medal of the race by posting an effort of 1 minute and 50.19 seconds.

The bronze medallist was trailed by Toru Maruyama, who was 0.51 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall for fourth position by producing an effort of 1 minute and 50.70 seconds.

In addition, the position holders received medals and accolades for their notable efforts at the victory ceremony of the tournament.
