Swedish International Stockholm 2013: Kento Momota beats Eric Pang to earn Men’s Singles title

Japan’s emerging shuttler Kento Momota finally got a much needed breakthrough as he clinched Men’s Singles title after defeating Netherlands’ Eric Pang in the final match of Swedish International Stockholm 2013 on Sunday, January 20, in Stockholm.

The impressive Momota, who was un-seeded in the main draw of the championship, played with remarkable precision and managed to defeat the third seeded Pang in a spectacular fashion.

Japanese man was in smashing form in the opening game but failed to maintain his rhythm in the following set. However, he proved his worth in the decider and won this three-set clash in 52 minutes by a reasonable margin of 21-9, 16-21 and 21-18.

On the other hand, the higher ranked Pang could not play positive badminton in the opening set but took the second game to level the score. But he failed to elevate his play in the deciding set and lost the match with a decent total.

It was an interesting fight in the opening points when Momota showed a wonderful display of his skills on court.

The impressive variations in Momota’s shots assisted him to continue his domination against his challenger in the arena.

Until the end of first part of starting game, the remarkable Momota obtained a strong position on score board by taking a reasonable lead.

Pang tried his best to put up strong resistance but remained unable to take charge of the game and remained struggling in the concluding part.

Momota was very calm and composed on court as he did not commit mistakes and won the first game with a staggering difference of 21-9.

In the following set, Pang lifted up his level of play by accelerating his speed and remained successful in setting up a reasonable lead until the break.

After the interval, Momota tried his best to reduce the deficit but could not create gaps and eventually lost the set with a reasonable margin of 16-21.

In the deciding game, Pang geared up his speed to play smart badminton in the first part of but failed to pile up pressure on his Japanese opponent.

Until the end of first part, the incredible Momota continued playing with control and variations and remained ahead on the score board.

After the break, Momota continued putting up stunning performance and clinched the set with a 21-18 score to seal off a sensational victory.
