4 policemen among 6 killed in twin-blasts in Karachi

Twin bomb blasts killed at least four police men and two other people and injured 12 other people, including seven policemen in Karachi late Thursday, police said.

 

Police officers were targeted as they arrived at the scene of the first blast at Quaid Abad neighbourhood of Karachi, a police officer said.

 

The blasts also injured members of the rescue teams who rushed to the site to shift the injured to hospitals.

 

The blasts in 15 minutes destroyed a police mobile and three ambulances, police said.

 

Deputy Superintendent Police, Kamal Khan Mangan, was among those police officers killed in the attacks, state television reported.

 

The first bomb was hidden in a garbage drum and the second was kept in a cemented block at Sherpao Colony area.

 

No group claimed responsibility for the attacks amid tight security measures for the birth anniversary celebrations of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

 

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has strongly condemned the bomb blasts and expressed heartfelt grief and sorrow over the killing of Police personnel in the cowardly terrorist act.

 

The Prime Minister said that anti-state elements wanted to create law and order situation with their ulterior motives to impede the progress and prosperity in the country. He said that such cowardly acts of terrorism would not deter the government’s resolve to stamp out menace of terrorism and extremism from the country in its all shapes and manifestations.

 

The Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to apprehend the culprits involved in the heinous crimes and bring them to book. He also conveyed his heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the victim families and prayed for the eternal peace of the depart souls.

 

The Prime Minister also directed the concerned authorities to provide best medical treatment to the injured.
