Cyprus International 2013: Scott Evans trounces Andrew Smith to bag Men’s Singles title

Ireland’s most experienced player Scott Evans continued his winning streak and wrapped up Men’s Singles title after beating England’s Andres Smith in the final clash at Cyprus International 2013 on Sunday, January 27, in Cyprus.

The impressive Evans, who was the top seeded shuttler in the main draw of the championship, played to his maximum potential and he easily outplayed the lower ranked Smith who could not put up strong resistance at any stage.

Irish man was on a different level and he controlled the affairs on crucial stages in the match. He did not face any considerable trouble from his English challenger and he won the contest in just 25 minutes with a spectacular 21-17 and 21-11 score on the board.

The second seeded Smith, in the meanwhile, could not maintain his winning rhythm in the arena as he committed many un-forced errors and eventually knelt down against the in-form Irish player without grabbing any game.

In the opening set, the in-form Evans displayed a phenomenal show on court as he executed shots with remarkable variations from opening points.

Evans played positive badminton proving that he has achieved top class skills on court. He maintained the pace of rallies at the highest level and kept his rival on back foot.

Until the one-minute break, the aggressive Evans was leading the game as he did not face any problem from his English challenger.

Meanwhile, Smith tried to play attacking badminton but could not take charge of the game and remained trailing in the concluding part.

Evans was very calm and composed on court as he did not show any sign of confusion and wrapped up the opening game with a decent 21-17 score on the board.

Things were similar in the second set of this interesting match as Evans played in the similar aggressive fashion.

Evans displayed his unmatched craft in the arena by taking the bird timely from all areas and kept his upper hand over his challenger.

The lofty Evans was composed and positive in the arena in the final points of second set and took the second set with a punishing 21-11 total on the score board.
