The Turkey international is happy to be back at the Bundesliga champions following a difficult 18 months while he insisted that he did not disappoint the Spanish giants during his time at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Nuri Sahin has stressed that he was unhappy at Liverpool FC and Real Madrid, and that led to a poor run of form. He joined his former side at the start of the January transfer window after 18 months away from the reigning German champions.

The young starlet claimed that he wanted to be back at Signal Iduna Park so that he could have fun playing football again. He stated that he is on top of his game only when he is happy, and certainly that was not the case at the English side and Spanish champions. Therefore, he rejoined his old club earlier this month.

“I can only play 100 per cent when I am happy. This wasn’t the case at Madrid and Liverpool. That’s why I wanted to return to Dortmund. I just hope this story here will last for a long, long time. I know where I want to be, and I am there now,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

“I thought about this a lot, it cost a lot of energy. I know things would have been different if I hadn’t been injured. But that was my fate,” he mused.

“It might have looked like I failed. I would not see it like this. During my time at Madrid, I suffered injuries to my intra-articular ligament three times over a short period of time,” he finally concluded.

Sahin is hoping to get back to his best once more. He also rejected that he was a disappointment for the La Liga club and said the injury hampered his progress there.
