Arsenal made an epic comeback to secure a point against Liverpool at their home ground – football news
Gunners were trailing 0-2 when they re-focused and eventually equalising the scores against their rivals at the Emirates Stadium. As a result, they managed to secure a point and stayed three points ahead the Reds at the Barclays English Premier League.
Luis Suarez scored the opening goal after Jordan Henderson fed him in the fifth minute. The visitors took this lead till the end of the opening half.
In the following half, Henderson showed his class again and after dodging five home players he netted the ball in.
However, four minutes later Olivier Giroud snatched a goal back from the Reds. He headed the ball in after receiving a free-kick from Jack Wilshere.
Three minutes later, Theo Walcott rifled the ball in from six yards out and levelled the terms with Liverpool.
Arsenal’s boss Arsene Wenger commented about his team in a post match press conference:
“I believe that first of all, it was a great football game where both teams really went for it and you could see that it was top level entertainment overall. We could have lost the game or won the game by three or four goals difference. That shows that we have created many chances going forward, but we were nervous defensively.”
Theo Walcott was the man of the match in this epic encounter as he displayed spectacular football skills especially in the last half hour.
The Frenchman, Wenger commented about Walcott’s brilliant performance:
“He’s absolutely moving forward. You can see he’s a man now when he plays football. He takes responsibility, always creates danger and he played against a top full back today and that’s where you see the quality in the big games like that.”
Arsenal might have managed to secure a point but they have won just one Premier League match in their past five meetings this season.
