Michelle Li storms into Women’s Singles final of Yonex Canadian National Championships

Michelle Li, the top shuttler in Canada, played with remarkable precision and stormed into Women’s Singles final after showing exit to Stephanie Pakenham in semi-final encounter of Yonex Canadian National Championships 2013 on Friday, February 1, in Canada.

The top seeded Michelle, who remained impressive throughout the tournament, continued putting up spectacular show of top class badminton and remained successful in securing a title berth after winning the semi-final contest in less than half an hour.

Michelle proved that she is the best in the country as she played with complete confidence and managed to end up the winning run of her challenger in straight sets with a decent 21-14 and 21-19 score on the board.

On the contrary, the lower ranked Stephanie played impressive badminton especially in the second game but she could not elevate her game in the concluding points and ultimately lost the semi-final battle against her top seeded compatriot.

Michelle played with excellent control in her shots and managed to take over the affairs from initial points of the first set.

The tempo of the rallies was quite fast in first set and Michelle impressed local crowd with her lofty skills. She proceeded with a stunning speed in the first half and stayed in lead on the board until the interval.

The battle progressed in the similar fashion after the one-minute break as Michelle did not lose her control on court.

Michelle was very calm and composed on court as she did not take pressure and won the first game with a staggering difference of 21-14.

In the following set, Stephanie played much better badminton and troubled her rival all the way at the early stage.

However, Michelle did not let her third seeded rival to take charge of rallies and both ladies stayed close on score board until the end of opening half.

After the break, the match progressed in the similar thrilling fashion and the score reached at the concluding phase.

However, it was Michelle who controlled the pace of rallies and scored the finishing points to wrap up the second game with a margin of 21-19 and sealed off victory in straight games.
