Misbah-ul-Haq is one of the best captains produced by Pakistan – Mohammad Hafeez

Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan’s premier all-rounder and the T20 skipper is all praise for Misbah-ul-Haq and expressed after the first day’s play of the first Test against South Africa that the middle-order batsman is turning out to be one of the best captains produced by the country.

The Green Shirts started the series brilliantly; restricting the hosts for merely 253 runs in their first innings. Onus is now on the batting line-up to deliver the goods and prove their mettle against one of the finest bowling attacks of the world. Hafeez was the star of the day, picking up four crucial wickets to help his team’s cause.

The vice-captain expressed that the Misbah deserves a lot of credit for what he has achieved for Pakistan since taking over as the Test captain in 2010. Hafeez revealed that the players share a great bond with their skipper and everyone wants to give his hundred percent for him.

“Misbah is a great character. The way he has handled the team in the last 2 years in great,” the opening batsman mentioned. “He makes things very simple and always gives confidence to the players and the players want to give something back to the captain in return. Players always back him up. He [Misbah] is turning out to be one of Pakistans best captains.”

Misbah was appointed as the captain of the Test team in extremely trying circumstances after the spot-fixing controversy. The middle-order batsman however, rose to the occasion and has done a splendid job since then. Over the last 30 months, the Green Shirts have lost just one Test series, that too by a narrow margin of 0-1 against Sri Lanka last year.

While talking about the team selection for the first Test at Johannesburg, Hafeez backed the team management’s decision to prefer Rahat Ali over the lanky Mohammad Irfan.

“The management showed confidence in Rahat who is a good bowler. Unfortunately he couldn’t do that well as we expected. Mohammad Irfan has to wait for his turn – But whenever that happens, he will perform well, as he did in the last series versus India,” he added.
