Julie Macpherson stuns Holly Newall to secure Girl’s Singles title at Glasgow Junior U19 2013

Julie Macpherson, who is one of the emerging shuttlers in Scotland, stole the limelight as she won the Girl’s Singles U19 title after defeating the higher ranked Holly Newall in the final encounter at Glasgow Junior U19 2013 on Sunday, February 10, in Scotland.

The second seeded Macpherson, who remained impressive in all battles in the tournament, showed her hard-to-learn skills on court and remained successful in winding up the final encounter while taking just 37 minutes in the arena.

Macpherson was in smashing form as she did not let her top seeded opponent to dominate the pace of rallies at any stage and eventually remained successful in finishing up tine match in straight sets with a reasonable margin of 21-12 and 22-20.

In contrast, Newall did not expect such a strong character from her lower ranked compatriot. She could not play good badminton in the opening game and lost it easily. However, she played well in the second set but failed to raise her level in the ending points and bent down without taking away any games from her challenger.

Macpherson played with excellent control in her shots and managed to occupy the pace of rallies from initial rallies of the opening game.

The impressive Macpherson showed that she has achieved top quality skills in the arena and ultimately successful in taking a strong position on court.

Until the mid-game interval, the in-form Macpherson stayed in complete command of rallies and managed a wonderful difference on the score board.

Newall tried to put up strong resistance but remained unable to take control of the game and remained struggling in the concluding half.

The positive and planned play of Macpherson assisted her to grab the first set with a superb 21-12 total on the score board.

Things were different in the second game when the top seeded Newall also played impressive badminton and stayed close to her lower ranked opponent until the one-minute break.

After the interval, both shuttlers continued showing superb show of attacking badminton and progressed closely all the way.

The score reached at 20-20 when Macpherson controlled her nerves and played controlled badminton that helped her to end up the game with a tight margin of 22-20 and sealed off victory in straight games.
