Sweden’s Daniel Bodin added yet another X Games gold medal to his collection after stealing the show in the final of GoPro Snowmobile Best Trick at X Games Aspen 2013, which continued at Aspen, Colorado, on Sunday, January 27.

The rest of the podium was filled up by American freestyle riders, with Joe Parsons walking away with the silver medal, while Heath Frisby took home the bronze medal.

With Levi LaVallee pulling out of the event due to injury, it was only natural to expect Bodin to have a smooth sailing to the top of the podium in Sunday’s finals.

However, Parsons, Frisby and the other three finalists, namely Cory Davis, Willie Elam and Jackson Strong had no intention of letting the Swedish riding walking away with the gold medal without putting up a fight.

Bodin, however, did not take too much time to assert his dominance in the competition and pretty much stamped his authority in the final with his very first run, which landed him in the 90s.

Executing an Indian air back-flip with perfection and then making a clean landing for a judge’s score of 92.33, the 28-year-old Winter X Games veteran walked away with a well-deserved gold medal, his third since making his first appearance in the biggest winter action sports event of the year in 2007.

“This is unreal,” Bodin said. “I broke my neck last year, and I wasn’t sure if I would ever ride again. Just to be back here and to get that gold again is unbelievable. I’m just so happy right now.”

Parsons finished in second place with a 91.66 after landing a new variation of his “gator wrester,” a “gator hater” that has him seated back-ward on the landing.

The Yakima-based rider was clearly disappointed about not getting a higher score from the judges for a trick that was not only original, but was executed extremely well.

“I guess when you do something brand new, it doesn’t count for anything. (This is) the first time I’ve ever tried it and I flawlessly executed it. I’m just glad I did what I came here to do.”

Frisby, last year’s Snowmobile Best Trick champion, had to settle for a bronze medal this year.
