Rafael Nadal and Milos Raonic captured the titles on Sunday – Tennis News

Top seed, Rafael Nadal from Spain, breezed past the former world number three, David Nalbandian, in straight sets at the Brasil Open 2013 on Sunday. Elsewhere at the SAP Open 2013, top seeded Milos Raonic grabbed the title for the third straight time after cruising past the former world number two, Tommy Haas, in straight sets.

The Spanish ace, Nadal, notched up a 6-2, 6-3 victory against the Argentinean to capture his 37th clay court title at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour 250 series event held in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The former world number one, Nadal re-kindled his spark to outsmart the Argentinean in their seventh encounter. After stealing the show, the Spaniard improved to a 5-2 lead in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head series against Nalbandian and bagged 250 Emirates ATP ranking points.

The Spanish star was quoted in a courtside interview after pocketing the match:

“It’s very nice and important because at the end of your career what’s left are the titles, and depending on certain moments there are some titles that you appreciate very much. This one I appreciate it the most because of all the struggles I went through during the week, with some problems with my knee some days. [It’s] true, David didn’t play very well, but in general I played my best match of the week. I am very happy, to win in Brazil for the second time, it’s wonderful. In 2005 it was the beginning of all these last beautiful years.”

Nadal made a comfortable entry on the Sao Paulo dirt. After Nalbandian held his second serve, the Spaniard reeled off last four games and eventually clicked the opener with a 6-2 success.

Ranked fifth in the world, Nadal lost his track towards the proceeding set. He lost his opening two serves and fell at 0-3. However, the Spaniard went berserk and wiped out six games consecutively.

The Canadian number one and the world number 13, Raonic, steal the spotlight in San Jose. He notched up a 6-4, 6-3 victory against the fourth seeded German to grab the title.

“It’s pretty awesome. It’s pretty special,” said Raonic. “It’s more than just the trophies that I have. It’s the little things that come with it.
