Law Minister Farooq H Naek Friday said that Governor’s rule in Balochistan will be lifted by March 14, just few days before the government completes its five-year term.

The statement is thought to be politically-motivated as the current assemblies are scheduled to be dissolved on March 17.

Governor rules was imposed in Balochistan last month following deadly attacks which killed over 100 people, mostly belonged to Hazara community.

The PPP has been under fire for imposing governor rule and it is now trying to avoid the backlash before the general elections.

Talking to media outside parliament house on Friday‚ the Law Minister said that Speaker Assembly will announce a date for the convening of assembly session. He said that the provincial assembly will elect new leader of the house.

He said that all steps will be taken in accordance with the constitution. He added that extension order of governor’s rule was needed after two months from parliament’s giant session, but government had no intention of extending the order.

Naek said that establishing a caretaker government ahead of announcing national elections was a constitutional requirement and the government had to undertake negotiations with the opposition parties and the speaker of the National Assembly to make this happen.

The most recent attack claimed the lives of 89 people in a busy marketplace in a Hazara dominated area of Quetta on February 16.

In the wake of these incessant terrorist attacks, even the civilians of Balochistan, who initially demanded the enforcement of governor rule, later insisted on army takeover.

Meanwhile Interior Minister Rehman Malik called on President Asif Ali Zardari in Islamabad and briefed him on law and order situation in the country.

The Interior Minister said that operation has been started against Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. He took President into confidence regarding his visit to Iran. He also briefed President about progress of investigation into Quetta tragedy.
